We encourage ranch visits by anyone who is interested in meeting the alpacas, seeing the yarns and fiber products, and/or shopping at our unique ranch store. If you are interested in learning more about the alpaca business please plan to schedule extra time and bring your questions. We encourage and welcome visitors, school field trips, and other alpaca owners to schedule a time that is convenient for all parties. An appointment may be scheduled either by phone or email. Please call to cancel and reschedule if the need arises with a 24 hours in advance notice. We love dogs, but our alpacas do not. Please do not bring dogs along for the visit. Some alpacas will let you touch them, but most will not. Since they are animals of prey they feel the least stressed being within their herd and not put into a position of fear. Parents and educators please tell your children that we have treats that most of our animals will take from your hand, but chasing them is not an acceptable way to feed them. Do they spit? Yes, but we can honestly say that we've never had an alpaca spit at us intentionally. We have been in the line of fire on occasion when they are disagreeing with one another.
We are limited to the number of school field trips we can accommodate during the regular school year. Please call or email us well in advance if your class is interested in a trip to our Alpaca farm. Paul provides a slide show and tells about the history and lifestyle of the people of Peru. Penny gives students a tour of the pastures and barn. Students will meet the alpacas (adults and crias) and learn about their behavior, fiber, and the products made from their fleeces. These field trips generally last up to 1 - 2 hours depending on the age of the children.
